Characteristics
Peddes
The steep narrow streets bordered by high houses are a characteristic of Thiers. Even more characteristic are “peddes”, as people in the Auvergne call houses crossing the street at first floor.
La Foire au Pré
In the middle of September there is the “Foire du Pré”, one of the biggest funfairs of the region combined with a livestock markets. Eating “la tripe”, or tripe, dates back to a time when the stallholders were hungry after their long walks to the market pla-ce.
Espace
The Espace, the futuristic community hall, is an important centre of the cultural life in town.
Protected Area
Thiers is located at the northern edge of the “Parc Naturel Régional Livradois-Forez”, a natural national park with several picturesque villages, impressive Roman churches and mu-seums.
